The Skinny On Snacks

Call what you like: snacking, grazing, noshing: we are a snacking society. Offices and homes are small convenience stores, making it difficult to avoid the temptation to snack. Some individuals admit to snacking because of boredom or merely because snacks are available, rather than snacking from hunger. For others, snacks are a reward for a tough or busy day at work or dealing with a grouchy boss. One of the drawbacks to frequent snacking is that we tend to forget what it’s like to feel hunger. The end result is that we wind up never feeling satisfied and eating too many calories.
Not to worry. Snacks can be a great opportunity for some quick, healthy nutrition, a pick me up during the day, or even a little guilty pleasure. If you’re trying to lose weight, snacks can prevent overeating at the next meal, especially if the meal is delayed. Plan for snacks. Schedule them in to your day and stick to a calorie amount that is part of your calorie budget if you are watching your weight.
