Spring is Here, Time to Kick it Back into Gear!

Written by Alexis D’Ascenzo, Dietetic Student at University of Illinois at Chicago, CPT

With this nice weather (finally) right around the corner it’s time to take out those gym shoes, or that bike that has been in storage! There are many ways you can get in your physical activity outdoors with no equipment needed!

So what are some challenging but yet fun outdoor exercises?

Here are a few ideas I came up with:

  • Sprints in an open field
  • Push ups on a park bench
  • Walking or Jogging for a certain amount of time
  • Tricep dips on a picnic table
  • Jump rope (harder than it used to be)
  • Planks on the playground
  • Bike riding
  • High knees mixed with jogging intervals
  • Jumping jacks
  • Sit ups mixed with in place lunges
  • Rollerblading
  • Air or jump squats
  • Walking or jogging with your animals
  • Burpees in the grass (oh yes)

As you can see there are so many options when it comes to outdoor exercises. Be creative, and do what form of exercise you enjoy doing the most because remember any physical activity is better than none.
