National Coffee Day is an annual event celebrated every year in a number of countries. The main purpose is to honor the enjoyment of coffee. The day is also used as a promotion of fair trade coffee and to increase awareness of the plight of coffee growers. It is estimated that 90 % of adults drink coffee daily. Coffee is the main source of caffeine with each cup of coffee containing 95 mg. caffeine. Many businesses promote the day with free and discounted coffee drinks. Some include: Dunkin Donuts, Einsteins, Starbucks, Peets, and Krispy Kreme. To learn more about caffeine, check out the Caffeine chapter in “Too Busy to Diet”.
