Guilt-Free Nostalgia with a Popsicle!

I know it hasn’t felt much like summer up here in the Midwest, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t act like it’s summer! There’s something very classic and nostalgic to me about eating popsicles when it gets warm outside. Looking back, it was always such a treat to suck on a popsicle in the backyard in the hot summer sun, (but of course in hindsight this could also have been my mother’s genius way of getting her twins to hush for just a few minutes.) As I have grown up, though, I like the classic neon-colored store-bought popsicle less and less and haves started making my own. You can find hundreds of recipes online, so it is hard to get bored and definitely easy enough to make with your kids! Make sure to look at the ingredients though. I see the benefit of making my own popsicles in the power to make something low-calorie and refreshing so watch recipes that call for cream cheese, sour cream, or lots of sugar. It is all up to you but I try to look for recipes that call most for fresh fruit. You’ll find plenty of recipes that call for whole fruit or use yogurt and these are great ways to cool down and get some calcium and vitamins in a sweet treat. Below I’ve listed some recipes but I encourage you to hop onto Pinterest or even good old Google and find some recipes that sound good to you!

Fun fact: There are only 40 calories per popsicle (depending on the brand) and even less for sugar-free varieties!
